What is the HK Prize?
hk Prize is one of the most sought-after high school competitions, offering cash prizes, study trips and other perks to students with outstanding academic achievements, extracurricular involvement and leadership potential. It aims to encourage young people towards careers in science while cultivating an appreciation for city living.
HK Prize recipients will be treated to an all-expenses paid trip to Hong Kong for the International Convention of Asia Scholars (ICAS), an all-encompassing platform where scholars, civil society representatives, policy makers and practitioners from around Asia gather annually. Since 1997 ICAS has become an essential gathering place for individuals and institutions alike with over 20,000 participants attending eleven conventions so far!
BOCHK SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY INNOVATION PRIZE is a merit-based award presented by Hong Kong Alliance of Technology and Innovation and sponsored by Bank of China (Hong Kong) Limited, to recognize researchers who make substantial scientific contributions with significant impact through innovative research. Furthermore, this Prize serves as a platform to develop top scientists while furthering research in Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area.
This year’s prize nominees include activists fighting for freedom and democracy – some even facing arrest in their efforts – as well as social justice initiatives like providing shelter to homeless adults; all these inspiring individuals serve as reminders to us that it’s possible to realize your dreams regardless of hardships encountered along the way.
Winners of the Hong Kong Prize are chosen by an independent judging panel comprised of industry experts, academics and professionals from each award category. This evaluation process takes into account each candidate’s innovative research achievements as well as their impact on society and commercial value created, along with any transformation to their work. A Grand Award and five Awards along with 10 Certificates of Merit will be given out for each category of awards presented at this ceremony.
Candidates for these awards can be nominated either themselves or through their institution, and should be under 50 at time of nomination, having made significant scientific contributions. Each award field should not recognize more than five individuals/teams annually. Judging takes place over three stages, with winners announced at an award ceremony held every year. Organisers invite representatives from Hong Kong Special Administrative Region government agencies and sponsoring enterprises to officiate at this ceremony. This will ensure the independence and objectivity of review. Judging panels will then develop their own final judging procedures in each award category to guarantee consistent standards. Judging will follow the Award Charter; should any candidate violate its provisions, the Board reserves the right to withdraw Prize money, certificates, and trophy from them. This award is open to residents from Southeast Asia, mainland China and overseas.
