The Hong Kong Prize is an annual competition that recognizes and rewards students for their academic and extracurricular achievements, providing recognition they crave as well as cash prizes, access to Hong Kong research facilities, and other benefits.
The prize aims to motivate young scientific researchers and innovators, particularly from Hong Kong and overseas, to pursue cutting-edge scientific exploration, establish themselves in Hong Kong and make meaningful contributions to humanity. Supported by both Government of Hong Kong, Swire Group, as well as other sponsors; it offers both significant financial reward as well as international exposure.
This year’s BOCHK Science and Technology Innovation Prize winner hails from Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST). A researcher from HKUST developed an innovative cellulose material to improve solar cell performance while potentially reducing production costs – making solar energy more accessible worldwide.
The BOCHK Science and Technology Innovation Prize honors scientists whose research has profound societal ramifications. Winners may receive up to $1 Million as an incentive for further scientific study or other purposes, making the prize accessible to scientists across disciplines from universities and research institutes throughout Hong Kong SAR and mainland China.

The Society for Hong Kong Studies’ eighth HK Student Prize competition for study projects about Hong Kong history and culture recently unveiled its results. The winning teams were chosen based on written reports’ relevance to the theme, systematic use of collected materials, objectiveness in analysis and citation of sources. Judges applauded students for conducting meticulous investigations and possessing impressive presentation abilities. Prizes offered at this competition include a grand award, runners-up awards and certificates of merit. Each HK$10,000 prize may be used towards creative work, arts projects or further studies; in addition, one winner of the Judges’ Prize will receive an extra HK$20,000 award; eligible secondary school students may enter this competition by nominating themselves through their teachers before entering by 16 September; for more information visit hkstudentprize.hk
