The 5th Singapore Prize Ceremony

Singapore Prize is an exclusive global program that recognizes entrepreneurs driving innovation and growth throughout Asia. Winners showcased Southeast Asian culture and talent through innovative products and services while creating strong social impact. Held at Ritz Carlton Millenia Singapore, this event brought together influential individuals from different niche sectors – and was graced by Minister Chonlatee Chanracjakul of Royal Thai Embassy as our honored guest of honor!

John Miksic received the inaugural prize in 2018 for his book Singapore and the Silk Road of the Sea, 1300-1800 which provides archaeological evidence that Singapore began more than 700 years ago. Hidayah Amin received her prize for Leluhur: Singapore’s Kampong Gelam which provides insight into Singapore’s economy, political system and cultural identity over 200 years.

As part of its fifth anniversary celebrations in 2024, the jury expanded to include experts in biodiversity and sustainability financing to increase their ability to select winning publications that can make significant strides toward social change. Furthermore, a translation category has been added in recognition of Singapore’s international profile and need for high quality literature written in various languages.

Marylyn Tan, 27, won her debut English poetry collection Gaze Back with nods to Helene Cixous’ essay The Laugh Of The Medusa which tells the tale of an evil Gorgon turning people to stone with its gaze. Additionally, Nimita’s Place by Straits Times journalist Akshita Nanda took home both debut novelist and short story categories for Epigram Books while Ng Yi-Sheng’s speculative collection Lion City won both categories while Wong Koi Tet won for his memoir Dakota Crescent.

Prince William will meet President Tharman Shanmugaratnam and Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loon at The Istana palace and attend an event honoring 50th Anniversary of ASEAN-UK Partnership for Peace and Cooperation – an initiative dedicated to building a better, safer world with shared vision of peace and prosperity.
