Longines Hong Kong Prize

Longines Hong Kong International Races will award an unprecedented prize pool this year at the Longines Hong Kong International Races, rising by 11.1 per cent overall and reaching HK$100 million across its four Group One races. Most impressive was Chairman’s Sprint Prize’s 11.1 percent increase to reach $20 Million; reflecting Jockey Club’s ongoing commitment towards rewarding world-class horses and jockeys.

Hong Kong-based students dominated the 8th inter-school competition on study projects about Hong Kong history and culture jointly organised by the Museum of History and Hong Kong Institute for Promotion of Chinese Culture. Diocesan Girls’ School’s winning project “The Trembling Ground” won top honors; Lui Cheung Kwong Lutheran College’s Centennial History of Chinese General Chamber of Commerce also saw success at this competition.

Yesterday was the prize ceremony. First prize of HK$100,000.00 was won by an entry submitted by HKU Faculty of Business and Management regarding development in Greater Bay Area; while HKU School of Journalism’s entry on globalisation’s effects and China’s economic reform on Hong Kong economy won second place with HK$30,000 prize. Other winners included the University of Hong Kong for its submission on the impact of Hong Kong’s urban renewal plans; PolyU Faculty of Architecture and Landscape Design’s proposal on repurposing historic Hung Hom Market; and University of Hong Kong Centre for Study of Contemporary China with their submission on future of Hong Kong Central District.

Global Scholars for Hong Kong has nominated five Hongkongers – Jimmy Lai, Chow Hang-tung, Lee Cheuk-yan, Gwyneth Ho, and Joshua Wong – as potential Nobel Peace Prize recipients in recognition of their fervent dedication to upholding freedoms and supporting democracy. Their nomination comes amid Beijing’s crackdown on dissent following unrest in July; multiple activists including 24-year-old Joshua Wong have been arrested under its National Security Law.

As per other news in Hong Kong, HK$2million will be given out as prize money at this week’s LINK Hong Kong Open at the Golf Club – marking eight events of this highly regarded Asian Tour series.

Prize money of Standard Chartered Hong Kong Marathon increased by record sum of HK$10 Million for local runners at its 25th running, to assist local racers. Under ‘Special Incentive Award for Marathon Challenge Category’ permanent residents finishing under 3 hours for men or 3:30 hours for women will receive additional incentive awards of HK$10,000; it marks the biggest prize money increase ever seen at this event; first time Standard Chartered has increased prize money for Marathon Challenge Category this way!
