The 8th HKJC Shaw Prize Presentation Ceremony

Today (September 25), the eighth Inter-school Competition of Study Projects on Hong Kong History and Culture wrapped up with a prize presentation ceremony hosted by both the Hong Kong Museum of History and Institute for Promotion of Chinese Culture. It aimed to expand students’ understanding of Hong Kong history and culture while stimulating active learning outside classroom environments and developing research skills.

At the ceremony, 30 projects were awarded prizes; another 20 will receive their awards in March next year. Furthermore, five outstanding projects will receive the Grand Award and special prizes; these projects include films on Hong Kong’s cultural heritage; investigations into historical developments and social change; analyses of how the economy of the city has been transformed over time; and an exploration of changing urban spaces over the past century.

HKJC has taken several measures to ensure the fairness of its draws. Employees from both security and customer service departments will conduct rigorous inspections and tests of all materials used for drawing such as boxing, transport and balls themselves, in addition to regularly weighing, measuring and X-raying the draw machine and balls as well as using different sets in subsequent draws.

Ng Siew Chien was honored with the Life and Science prize this year for her noninvasive tests to detect early diagnosis of gastrointestinal diseases and autism spectrum disorders. Furthermore, other University of Hong Kong laureates, such as Zhang Hua and Chen Shih-chi made breakthroughs in areas such as phase engineering of nanomaterials, 3D micro- and nanofabrication, innovative data security technologies and AI security innovations.

On Monday, BOCHK Science and Technology Innovation Prizes were unveiled, honoring pioneering work that has contributed significantly to Hong Kong’s scientific advancement. Nomination scope for this year’s prize also encompassed universities within Greater Bay Area.

This year’s Shaw Prize Exhibition invites visitors on an adventure into the research endeavors of this year’s laureates. Through engaging activities, visitors will have an unparalleled opportunity to witness cutting-edge research and technology first hand. Running from 24 October until 6 November with free admission.
