Sophia Jactel (B.A. ’20), an art history major at Syracuse University Art Galleries, received the Sidney Thomas Prize for her paper entitled: “Domesticity and Diversions: Josef Israels’ The Smoker as a Symbol of Peasant Culture and Role of Home in Nineteenth-Century Holland.” Sophia based her paper off an image in their collections; in addition to this academic achievement she co-curated an exhibition titled Domesticities: The Art of Daily Life this Fall alongside fellow art history majors.
Event Cinemas Rising Talent Award in Sydney, which recognizes an emerging film creative with a cash prize of $7,000. It is open to directors, screenwriters and film creatives with no more than five short film credits who wish to apply; winners will be revealed during a screening later in 2018.
