The Dr Alan HJ Chan ‘Spirit of Singapore’ Book Prize was established through a $1 million donation by Mr Alan Chan (deceased). Its aim is to promote compassion, empathy, voluntarism and activism through literature. The prize also honours Singaporean culture, broadly defined as its core values of equality, diversity, religious harmony, meritocracy and resilience – with strong emphasis placed on education, community building and innovation. Formerly titled Singapore Literature Prize. The new title and increased prize money reflect the vision of its donor, while National University of Singapore continues to administer the book prize. You can learn more about this award here; this prize is supported by both Ministry of Education and Temasek Foundation.
