The Hong Kong Prize – Celebrating the Intricate Web of Human Interactions

This year’s Hong Kong Prize recognizes the complex web of human interactions in our interdependent world. The 23 shortlisted artists demonstrate the myriad experiences we share through their creations without restriction of medium or subject matter. Together their works offer a vivid exploration of diversity, inclusion and equity; exploring what it means to be human in an ever-more-complex age.

From 22 April to 21 May, winning entries will be showcased in Goethe Gallery and Black Box Studio from 22 April until 21 May with first prize-winning entry being featured at a special event. Admission to both galleries is free.

At this year’s Standard Chartered Hong Kong Marathon, runners from 24 Asian countries/regions took part, with runners from Japan and China winning both Men’s and Women’s Asian titles respectively. It marked a record participation increase over previous years; additionally, this event will mark the introduction of an exciting Time Bonus award designed to motivate runners from different regions to reach better times on race day.

At the annual Hong Kong News Awards ceremony, China Daily journalists won a total of 18 prizes at this year’s ceremony; two reporters received double nominations in their categories. Editor-in-chief Tammy Tam lauded their “outstanding” work, noting how important professional, objective and balanced media outlets were for society amid pandemic threats. “I firmly believe professional, objective and balanced media are essential,” she explained.

The Hong Kong Film Awards (HKFA) has recently revealed that its prize pool will increase by 10.9% this year, with Class 1 races going from HK$4.3m to HK$4.5m and classes 2-5 increasing by 7.7% each. This increase was made possible thanks to an impressive donation from Hong Kong Jockey Club that will foster local film development.

Since 1993, the Hong Kong Film Awards (HKFA) has been one of Asia’s premier film accolades. Voting takes place among film workers and an independent panel of adjudicators; with voting occurring between January and March by all registered voters including film workers and critics as well as members from thirteen professional film bodies in Hong Kong.

At the Hong Kong Film Academy Ceremony to be held at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre in June, winners of the Hong Kong Film Academy Awards (HKFA) will be recognized and celebrated. Finalists and winners of each category will receive certificates; Aputure lighting equipment has graciously sponsored each winner trophy! Since its introduction, this festival has received support from an array of partners dedicated to cinematic innovation and promising Asian filmmakers – offering Hong Kong an important platform to advance Asian genre film development. This year marks a special milestone: for the first time partnering with Hong Kong International Literary Festival (HKILF). This partnership allows HKFA further broaden its scope and appeal!
